Fervent seeking after God with the whole heart, without which no one can know Him, has always been the mark of His true followers.
Fervent faith is passionate. It is convinced that God is who he says he is and trusts that he will do what he has promised. It doesn’t waver in unbelief and is never halfhearted. It believes wholeheartedly and rests secure.
The Holy Spirit gently persuades us so that we can be confident in our belief and the matter can be settled in our hearts. We can believe alongside David; his beautiful text that is recorded in Psalm 23:1–2 (NIV):
The Lord is my shepherd; I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside quiet waters; he refreshes my soul.
Because of Jesus, we lack nothing! Fervent faith is strong and confident and brings rest to weary souls. As we walk out our days through turbulent times and inevitable stresses, strong faith can rise above them with heartfelt hope. Confident faith is contagious. It reaches out to others and encourages them on to greater belief.
What a delight it is to rub shoulders with people whose lives are rich in faith. I often sit in prayer and Bible study circles where the weight of another's faith is felt, like a cozy blanket on a cold winter night. It warms hearts and souls. Because of the miles that separate my house from the Lessins' home, I don’t get to be a regular in the circles where Roy teaches and prays. But if I lived closer, I would be there! The faith he and Char has is fervent and contagious. You want to be near it, to rub shoulders with it.
The first parcel I received from the Lessins contained a copy of Meet Me in the Meadow, a daily devotional written by Roy. It brought the beautiful imagery of the Lord as Shepherd to life for me in even greater ways. It is filled with insightful messages and compelling Scripture that invite you to follow the Good Shepherd into His meadow to find love, comfort and deeper faith.
An excerpt from November 15 — Jesus Will Never Let You Go (1):
Jesus is with you always. No one can pluck you out of His hand.
He is in you and you are in Him. He is your Shepherd and He will watch over you. You need not fear any evil. He is your High Priest. He is daily interceding for you and His prayers are being answered. He is your Bridegroom. He is preparing a place for you in His Father’s house and He will come for you.
The first time I read it, I penned a little note in the margin beside those words that says “tears come.” I’m pretty sure that a step forward was made in my faith journey as I allowed those words to penetrate my heart and believe that they were true. True for me – true for you.
The underside of the cover and some of the pages with white space are filled with notes extracted from its pages ...
What is true of our redemption is also true of our ministry. Both begin at a place of rest.
When we serve the Lord we enter into a love relationship that binds us to His heart for others.
May the remaining days of summer be filled with sweet rest as we labor together in the garden where God makes fruit grow. May our love relationship with Him have us ever seeking who we might invite to join us on the journey of faith ... resting in the River of God. May our hearts be forever bound to Him and to the hearts of fellow sojourners on the most important journey of our lives: faith that fervently seeks the one true God.
